The Return Route Details

Date: July 7, 2026, by timrecknercomnews.com

Because it is returning along the same corridor, residents in the Schuylkill River valley will get a second chance to spot it in action.

  • Royersford & Pottstown (Morning Pass): The train will head back up the Norfolk Southern line on the morning of July 7. While it is not making an official, parked whistle-stop in Royersford or Pottstown on this leg, it will pass right through both boroughs on its way west. Local authorities suggest catching a glimpse from the standard crossings (like Main Street or Second Avenue in Royersford) or near the tracks in Pottstown as it moves through.

  • Official Whistle-Stop in Lebanon, PA: * Location: Lebanon Station (250 N. 8th St., Lebanon, PA)

    • Arrival: 12:30 PM EDT

    • Departure: 1:15 PM EDT

    • Note: This will be a brief 45-minute stop with a local community celebration before it proceeds further west.

The Next Leg Out West

After leaving Lebanon on July 7, the Big Boy will continue tracking westward toward its eventual home base (Cheyenne, WY, and its broader western network connection toward California):

  • July 8: Lewistown and Altoona, PA

  • July 9–10: Major public display in Altoona, PA

  • July 11: Horseshoe Curve, Cresson, and Leetsdale, PA (leaving Pennsylvania)

  • Mid-to-Late July: Moving through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas.

Safety Reminder: Because this is a high-traffic return route, Union Pacific emphasizes staying at least 25 feet back from the tracks and keeping drones well clear of the engine's path!

NASA Discovers Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS (July 3, 2025)

On July 3, 2025, NASA announced the discovery of an interstellar comet named 3I/ATLAS. Currently, the comet is approximately 670 million kilometers from Earth and will never come closer than 1.6 AU (about 240 million kilometers). It is located around 4.5 AU from the Sun and will approach 1.4 AU on October 30, placing it just inside the orbit of Mars before it heads back into deep space.

The comet will remain visible to telescopes until September, when it will disappear behind the Sun, but it is expected to re-emerge in December.

India Resumes Tourist Visas for Chinese Visitors (July 24, 2025)

The Indian Embassy in China announced on July 24, 2025, that India will resume issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens after a five-year suspension. The issuance of visas was halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and this suspension continued amid border tensions and restrictions that included the invalidation of visas, a ban on Chinese apps, a halt to flights, and stricter investment rules.

Under the new process, Chinese travelers must submit an online application, book an appointment, and provide documents in person at the embassy in Beijing or at consulates in Shanghai and Guangzhou. This decision marks a diplomatic thaw, as both countries prepare to resume direct flights and reopen the pilgrimage route to Tibet, creating new opportunities for tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
